“I studied drums with Brian…by the end of the first practice I was behind the kit, holding down a beat. It was amazing! …he taught me exactly what I was hoping to learn which I really appreciate. I would definitely recommend [Sage Music] if you are looking to play the drums.” – David Lucas, Google Reviews

Progress is felt right away with practice. He explained the mechanics and art of playing music. He made musicians out of his students.” – Thomas S., Thumbtack Reviews
Drum Lessons for Advanced Students
Our students have included cast members of Saturday Night Live, Broadway performers, and producers coming to work on their keyboard skills. We’ve even helped students prepare for graduate degree auditions.
We go above and beyond other programs by developing more advanced skills, practice habits, and learning techniques. You’ll learn more music, in a shorter amount of time, and with greater skill and security.
Intermediate Drum Lessons
As an advancing drummer, we’ve got the skills to get your drum playing to the next level. We’ve worked with beginners and pros, so we know exactly how to get you from one level to the next.
Drum Lessons for Beginners
Don’t want to play kids songs? No worry! We’ll work with you to help you play the music that you want. We personalize our lessons for you.
Sometimes we can jump right in with what you want, but other times it takes a little prep work. But we’ll always get you there.
In fact, most of our drum students are adult beginners. So you’ll find a welcoming environment with a team that knows how to work with folks just like you.
Other Drum Lessons
Most of our students come to us after they have tried lessons somewhere else. They tried video lessons or regular lessons that weren’t personlized for them – YouTube, Guitar Center, or TakeLessons. They took lessons with teachers who were not trained professionals.<
And they just didn’t see the results they wanted.
They didn’t get better or ended up frustrated. They paid for videos but still had to teach themselves. They took lessons with someone who showed them what to do, but not how to do it.
And that left them unhappy. Feeling like they wasted time and money. So they looked for a better program.
The good news is that you’ve just found the #1 science backed program, guaranteed to get you results. That’s the Arpeggio® lessons system, designed right here at Sage Music®.
Drum Lessons for Kids
Develop your child’s skills in a fun and engaging way
Just like you, we want to see your kid have fun, enjoy music, and grow into a capable, successful adult. And we also know you want a program you can trust because you are busy with so many things.
That’s what we’ve designed our Arpeggio® lesson system to do. Systems such as Suzuki, ABRSM, the Royal Conservatory simply provide a sequence of songs to play. But our system is designed to develop your child’s skills, enabling them to play any music they want. That’s real growth, and real learning.
In addition, our system provides you with detailed notes every week so you can stay in touch with your child’s development. Plus your child will have the opportunity to perform every week in our student sharing hour, in our open mics, or in our regular recitals. This gives you results that you and your child can see.
Music Match & Sharing Hour
Plus, your child can meet other students at Sage Music and practice or play music in our Music Match and Sharing Hour programs. Peer learning is an effective way for your child to grow, plus stay engaged while learning drum from home.
Music Match provides for a more focused one-one-one experience, while the Sharing Hour is about social learning experiences.
Drum Lessons for Toddlers
There is a big difference between teaching a 6 year old and a toddler. And a big difference between teaching a 3 year old and a 4 year old.
That’s why we’ve got trained teachers, and teachers who specialize in early childhood music education.
Our drum teachers know how to keep you child engaged, focused, and learning. All in part of a program designed for their age and level of development. They will learn and grow at the drum, while having fun.
Most instruments require lots of fine motor control, in other words, really small movements. But the drums are played using large muscle movements. And toddlers don’t yet have that fine motor control. That means drums are a better fit for most toddlers than other instruments.
Plus the toddlers love moving around! It’s a lot easier for them to stay engaged when they are playing the drums.

Types of Drum Lessons
While they are similar, the types of drum are all slightly different to play and are used for different music. If you need help choosing the right kind of drum for your lessons, let us know. We’ll be happy to help.
Rock Drum Lessons
We are happy to work with you on the music that you want to learn. And for most of our drum students, they want to rock.
If you want to play the music of today, you’ll learn a solid drum technique just like our classical and jazz students. But we’ll apply your drum skills to the music that you want to play.
Jazz Drum Lessons
America’s classical music is jazz. And drums have a central role in playing jazz. Whether you want to play in a jazz combo, a big band, or small group, we can help you. Learn proper techniqe. Read jazz standards. And learn to improvise.
Learning jazz drum requires skills that other types of drums don’t. These are improvising, ear training, and often playing many songs from memory.
Our drum teachers are trained in these skills to they can pass them on to you.
Styles of drum you can play
Our goal is to give you the skills to play any music that you want. So in addition to the types of drum, you can try many different styles. We won’t hold you to a particular style, so you get to be you! Let us know what styles of drum you want to play!
- Write your own music on the drums
- Or invent your own style
Personalized Drum Lessons in Relaxed Atmosphere
We customize our drum lessons just for you. We’ll start by setting your goals. Then we’ll create custom lessons based around what you want to learn.
Our trained teachers have the skills to get you playing any music you want. Plus they will teach you how to practice, so that you can make the most practice on your own.
But very few drummers play solo. And for that reason we also host our weekly rhythm class, open mics, recitals, and more. That will give you the opportunity to meet other musicians like you, and play music in a group setting.
Our drum lessons are taught in properly sound proofed and sound treated rooms. This will make is easy and comfortable to hear when you practice, all without hurting your ears.
Since drums are almost always used in band and ensemble situations, it is important for drummers to learn how to play music in a collective setting. It isn’t possible to be a solid drummer unless you know how to work well with other musicians, how to accentuate the form, or make space for the vocals or a solo. For this reason we provide opportunities for our drummers to work with other musicians at the many concerts, recitals and performances at our studio.
