What are the 8 steps of Arpeggio®?

We’d love to tell you, but we can’t tell you what the steps are. Those steps are protected by trade secret and are only known to Sage Music employees. In fact, only Sage Music teachers are authorized to use the Arpeggio® lesson system.

While we can’t say what Arpeggio is, we can tell you what it does.

Each of the 8 letters in Arpeggio represent a step in our teaching process.  These steps provides consistent, quality, and effective music lessons that helps our clients grow into competent musicians while providing excellent client service.

A consistent quality music lesson

With Arpeggio, each and every lesson is structured in the same way. That means no matter which Sage Music teacher you work with, you’ll get exactly the same great experience.

But it’s also a flexible system that adapts to you. So you’ll always be treated like an individual and focus on your personal goals. All taught to you with the most effective science-backed strategies for learning music.

Arpeggio is also backed by our proprietary technology and software, which helps our teachers keep you on track.

Research-backed strategies for learning and teaching

Educators are not usually given the research on how people actually learn and function.

While it seems like it should be common sense, we are of the few schools that is ensuring all our teachers have the best and most up to date research about how students learn, so that we can always provide you with the best strategies for learning and practicing music.

The field of learning psychology has grown so much in the last decade, and we are excited to be on the leading edge.

Our teachers go through our extensive Sage Music Teacher Training program, and continue to grow as teachers through ongoing professional development.

Lessons focused on your goals

We aren’t interested in teaching every student the exact same music. And frankly, if we did, we’d be bored.

Research also shows that students who set their own goals achieve more and stick with it longer.

So we let you choose your own goals. Our job is to get you there.

I heavily admire that they allow me to bring them my goals and they lead me there directly. Not through a maze of confusion and customs but for me I’m being taken straight to what I imagined when I pictured myself as a [musician].”

Adapts to your unique personality

We set your lesson preferences and assess your personality during your student onboarding.

Those results are then incorporated into the Arpeggio lesson system.

This allows our teachers to adapt their overall strategy to your unique personality and preferences.

Ensures excellent client service

Yes, we want to provide you with the best musical education possible. And we also want you to feel good while doing it.

So we’ve built a frame for excellent client service into Arpeggio. You should always come first.

Keeps you organized

Arpeggio is built around your goals, and is designed to keep both you and your teacher on track for your goals.

Lesson content is taught and recorded in a structured way. We’ll send an email of your current lesson content to you at the end of each lesson.

Soon you’ll be able to log into your own account to see your own learning activities and notes. This will be ready in late 2022 or early 2023.

Adapts to your learning style

As our instructors get to know you better over time, they will learn more about your preferred learning style and record those insights into Arpeggio.

Teachers are then able to encourage your strengths, and help you improve upon your weaknesses.

The lessons and teaching methods at Sage are very structured and meant to create progress, and to help students get more substance and more enjoyment out of individual practice sessions outside of the lesson. It’s a really unique way of teaching. I’d highly recommend taking a class!

Improves with time

Unlike other teaching methods, Arpeggio won’t go stale. It’s built with a feedback loop so that it is constantly evolving.

So as we learn more about you and as the research into learning music improves, Arpeggio will evolve to become a better and better system.

If you are growing, we should be too.

“[the] teaching left me feeling encouraged and with the sense that I have come to the right place for real growth

Should a music method teach you what to do, how to do it, or how to learn it?

There are three levels of music instruction.

What to do.

The first are lessons or methods that show you what to do.The Suzuki method and most music method books are like this. They lay out a series of musical selections, and tell you what to play. These methods make it easy to know what to do next.

How to do it.

The second are lessons or methods that show you how to do it. This is like most YouTube videos. They show you how to do something, largely through demonstration. They make it visually easy to understand how to do something. However, often they don’t provide you with a clear progression of work. That is, they don’t plan the route to your goals.

But very few methods show you both what to do and how to do it.

How to learn it.

However, there is another level that nearly all methods ignore, which is how to learn it. We have a lot of respect for Suzuki and Orff who made a solid attempt at solving this problem.

In the 100 years since the invention of these methods, we have learned so much more about teaching and learning.

This is where our Arpeggio lesson framework shines.

Arpeggio® provides all three.

Given your own unique goals, our well trained teachers will plan the route. They show you what to do and how to do it. And they’ll guide you step by step along the way.

But there’s more than that. You’ll also be given the best research-backed strategies for learning music, so that you’ll also know exactly how to learn it.

It is very important that you know exactly how to learn each item you are working on when you are practicing on your own, because progress is made during your practice, not in your lesson.

This means that you’ll make the most progress in the shortest amount of time. And you’ll retain what you learned for much longer without forgetting.

You’ll get the most progress for your investment with Arpeggio®.
