Being a musician is a constant learning process, and a dedicated musician should always be on the lookout for new ideas about technique, interpretation, and other aspects of music. In the past, I have found a lot of great information through vocal masterclasses (both as a participant and as an audience member). Luckily, New York can provide us with an immeasurable amount of opportunities to hear great music and listen to the teachings of great artists.
Every January, Carnegie Hall offers a series of masterclasses called “The Song Continues.” The series is run by world-renowned mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, and features up and coming vocal artists. This year, in addition to an evening with Horne herself, the amazing soprano Jessye Norman will give a vocal masterclass to share her wisdom. The week also includes some spotlight solo recitals, as well as a final concert with special guests.
Tickets for the masterclasses are as low as $15 (!), and student tickets may also be available at the Carnegie Hall Box Office for the final concert on Jan 19th (reg. price tickets $45). I guarantee that you cannot find a better deal for an informative vocal masterclass with higher level talent!

See you there!!
